Last Bit of Freedom, 2021

Watercolor

Last Bit of Freedom is a tribute to the resilience of Arabs who have endured political violence, oppression, and persecution. This piece highlights the unyielding spirit of freedom of thought—a force that no gun, tank, or oppressive law can extinguish. Revolution is an idea, and ideas don't die. The figures of Middle Eastern oppressors—Ben Ali, Gaddafi, Bashar Al-Assad, Sisi, and Mohammed Bin Salman—sit heavily on the back of the subject, symbolizing decades of tyranny. Yet, from this burden emerges a vibrant burst of color, representing the autonomous mind, a testament to the boundless power of ideas.

This work seeks to remind viewers that while physical freedoms can be stripped away, the freedom to dream, to think, and to believe in reform and revolution remains unconquerable. ‘Last Bit of Freedom’ is a celebration of this enduring human spirit, honoring all those who continue to resist oppression with the hope for a more just future.
